Public transport solution: Tram your bike

Friday, 19th April 2013

Here's a clever solution that integrates bicycles with public transport, in this case trams, to increase use.

Many public transit systems actively prohibit bringing on bicycles. Called intermodal transportation it involves using two or more forms of transportation in a journey. This innovative solution from Stuttgart, Germany adds desperately needed bicycle accommodation on this light rail / tram line.

Bicycles can often increase the use of public transit. However, limited storage space onboard hinders the promotion of intermodal commutes. Imagine if our trains and trams were all designed to accomodate bicycles. What a difference it would make.

You could also transport wheelchairs more easily.
